Persian Gulf : Since it began 28 February, the conflict between Israel/United States and Iran has spread throughout the region, resulting in at least 2,076 fatalities in Iran, 1,318 in Lebanon, 104 in Iraq, 40 in the Gulf States and 19 in Israel (figures as of 1 April). Iran’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz (through which 20% of the world’s oil passes) is severely disrupting maritime and energy trade, whilst the closure of airspace in the area is causing major disruption to travel.

Asia-Pacific : A widespread energy crisis, prompting the declaration of a state of energy emergency in the Philippines 24 March, the deployment of the army in Bangladesh from 8 March and specific measures to address supply-related risks linked to the conflict in the Middle East (fuel rationing, working from home, suspension of street lighting, flight restrictions) in several countries (Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, India).

United States : Temporary closure of New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) following a collision between an Air Canada Express aircraft and an emergency vehicle 23 March, in which two people lost their lives.
