China: a large part of the country was affected by the arrival of several tropical storms and heavy, rain especially in Beijing, where there were reports of tens of people dead and more than 80,000 people evacuated.

Colombia: renewed armed violence has been seen in the country, following political tension after it was announced that Senator Miguel Uribe, candidate in the 2026 presidential race, had died from the injuries he sustained when he was shot during a public meeting in Bogota 11 June.

Indonesia: emergence of a protest movement led by trade unions, including clashes between the police and demonstrators outside parliament in Jakarta (25 & 26 August). Tensions exacerbated by the death of a rideshare driver, run over by a police vehicle 28 August, spreading to other cities. 3 dead in violent clashes at the regional council of Makassar, South Sulawesi (29 August).

Ivory Coast: tensions running high ahead of the ballot, with presidential election applications admissible in Abidjan until 26 August (opposition demonstrations, President Ouattara filing his candidacy for a 4th term in office).
