Gabon: durable stabilisation of the political situation with the completion of the transition and the landslide victory of General Oligui Nguema in the 12 April presidential election, largely applauded by the population and accepted by the opposition despite irregularities.

India/Pakistan: terrorist attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam, Indian–administered Kashmir 22 April (28 dead), triggering a major crisis with Pakistan with no sign of de–escalation on the horizon. Risk of Indian military action on Pakistani territory in the short–term, including subsequent retaliation.

Jordan: sixteen people arrested 15 April on suspicion of “targeting national security” by sowing “chaos and sabotage” with the use of drones and rockets across the country. Activities of the Muslim Brotherhood banned in Jordan following an incident, posing a short and medium–term risk of political destabilisation and demonstrations against the monarchy.

Tanzania: political arena remains under tight control and crackdown on the opposition ahead of the October general elections: the leader of the opposition, Tundu Lissu, arrested and put on trial, Chadema party excluded from the ballot. Increase in political tension and demonstrations to be expected in the coming months .
